This three-hour course will survey the basic components of the Divine Science. We’ll touch on the origins of Jyotisha, and certain philosophical constructs underlying this type of astrology. We will introduce you to the meaning of the nine planets/grahas; the twelve signs/rasis; the twelve houses, and the twenty-seven Moon signs/nakshatras. This class is intended to prepare you to dip your toes into the sacred “Ocean of Jyotish!”

Charlotte Benson has practiced Astrology, full-time in Phoenix, Arizona, as a credentialed professional since 1972. She has analyzed tens of thousands of charts, serving her clients with the intelligence offered by the language of the stars. Charlotte is the President of the American College of Vedic Astrology, Inc.

Alan Annand is a Canadian astrologer, palmist and author, with 40 years as an astrological consultant and teacher. He’s a former tutor for the British Faculty of Astrological Studies, and a graduate of the American College of Vedic Astrology. His six books on Vedic astrology have been praised for the quality of their research and writing. He’s also a crime novelist, whose New Age Noir mystery series features a Vedic astrologer/palmist.

The role of the Vedic Astrologer as a consultant, counselor and spiritual guide requires basic training and effective communication skills. Although technical skill and predictive accuracy are essential, empathy, compassion, intuition and a good ‘chart-side manner’ should be cultivated in developing one’s therapeutic skills. The focus of this lecture is to explore common challenges in the consulting room and to provide solutions to these potential pitfalls in practice. Dennis’ lecture will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session with Alan, Charlotte and Dennis.

Dennis M. Harness, Ph.D. (Dayananda) is a professional astrologer who holds a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology. For more than thirty years, Dennis has studied both Eastern and Western techniques of astrology. He teaches workshops on Vedic Astrology and Transpersonal Psychology throughout the world. Dr. Harness is the President Emeritus of the American College of Vedic Astrology in Sedona, Arizona.

A 60-minute session includes a brief palmistry review of your hands, followed by a full discussion of the Vedic birth chart. Topics will focus on your stated primary interests, whether relationships, career, finance, spirituality, etc. Highlights include major karmic patterns (astrological yogas) in the horoscope, and a prognosis for the major time periods (dashas) in the life wherein individual karma unfolds as per the unique horoscope. Time permitting, topical questions will be addressed during the session.
